Hi there! I’m Jennifer Mitchell, and I’m so glad you’ve found your way to my little corner of the internet. Whisk & Twist is where my love for creative cooking and my passion for bringing people together through food come to life. Whether you’re a seasoned home chef or just starting your culinary adventure, I’m here to inspire you with recipes that are approachable, delicious, and always worth the effort.

Our Story

My love for cooking didn’t start in a traditional way. Growing up in suburban Melbourne, Australia, I was the kid who’d rather experiment in the kitchen than play outside. While my friends were climbing trees, I was sneaking into the pantry, combining random ingredients to create what I called “mystery meals.” My poor family was my test audience, and let’s just say not every experiment was a winner I still cringe thinking about my chocolate-pasta phase at age nine!

But everything changed during a rainy winter when I was twelve. My mum broke her wrist, and suddenly, I became the family cook by necessity. What started as a challenge became my greatest joy. I remember the first time I successfully made her famous shepherd’s pie from memory, watching my dad’s face light up with that first bite. That moment sparked something in me the realization that food has this incredible power to comfort, to heal, and to say “I love you” without words.

As I grew older, my kitchen experiments became more refined. I traveled through Southeast Asia after university, learning to balance flavors in Thai street markets and Vietnamese cooking classes. I spent a summer in Tuscany, where a local nonna taught me that the best ingredients need very little fuss. Each experience added a new “twist” to my cooking style, teaching me that the most memorable meals come from blending tradition with creativity.

Our Philosophy

At Whisk & Twist, I believe cooking should be joyful, not stressful. My philosophy is simple: take classic recipes, give them a creative twist, and make them accessible for real life. I’m not about complicated techniques or impossible-to-find ingredients. Instead, I focus on:

That’s why every recipe here includes detailed instructions, helpful tips, and sometimes even what NOT to do (because I’ve made those mistakes so you don’t have to!). I write recipes the way I’d explain them to a friend in my kitchen.

Meet Jennifer

When I’m not in the kitchen developing recipes, you’ll find me exploring farmers’ markets (my happy place!), attempting to keep my herb garden alive (still working on that one), or convincing my husband that yes, we really do need to try that new restaurant for “research purposes.” I’m a coffee enthusiast, a cookbook collector, and someone who genuinely gets excited about a perfectly ripe avocado.

I live with my wonderfully patient husband Tom, who’s my official taste-tester and dish-washing champion, and our rescue dog Basil, who’s always hoping something will drop on the floor (it usually does). Our kitchen is the heart of our home, and I love nothing more than filling it with good smells, good food, and good conversation.
